However, potluck has another meaning which appears as a tradition practice for not throwing any leftovers. These leftovers will be mixed and cooked in a pot, and to serve those who shows up their faces to these place. Therefore, it refers to "luck of the pot" as it's not a everyday's privilege. The practice is especially prevalence in the bars or inns in medieval time.
