Day 25 : What are the ingredients in McDonald's French Fries?

In 2002, McDonald's launched a transparency campaign to reveal the real ingredients in all of the food products including burgers, french fries, sundae ice cream and etc.

Thanks to the honesty (yet I still doubt about the real composition of the said ingredients and the hidden one), we have a better understanding towards the famous French Fries.

However, does it makes us feel safe to the fries? Apparently NO.

The health concerns of the ingredients are:

1) Vegetable oil (Canola oil, Hydrogenated soybean oil, and corn oil)
- Most of these oil are genetically-modified. Hydrogenated soybean oil contains about 94% saturated oil.

2) ”Natural flavor”
- Most suspiciously contains monosodium glutamate (MSG) which is nerve- and brain-toxin. That's why the fries are so addicting.

3) Dextrose
- A type of sugar, to add back the sweet taste after blanching.

4) Sodium acid pyrophosphate
- A color preservative.

5) Citric acid
-  A preservative.

6) Dimethylpolysiloxane
- An anti-foaming agent.

7) Tert-butylhydroquinone (TBHQ)
-  A petroleum-based, butane-like ingredient used as a preservative. It has been linked to asthma, skin conditions, hormone disruption, and in long-term animal studies to cancer and damage to DNA.
