Day 8 : Cooking oil recycle centres at Selangor

The used cooking oil should not pour into the water sink or the drain, it would clog them. Therefore it is recommended that to recollect and regenerate the used oil into soap or biodiesel.

1. CETDEM (Centre for Environment, Technology & Development, Malaysia)

It is a non-profit organization based at Petaling Jaya. The used cooking oil will be recycled to produce biodiesel.

2. LUAS (Lembaga Urus Air Selangor)

Since year 2005, LUAS launch a program named as "The used cooking oil campaign" in the school canteen or some communities. A total of 150 communities have involved in this cooking oil recycling program for the time being.  LUAS put them in touch with cooking oil traders CGV industries, which provided the big containers at the site. When full, the CGV companies such as Sime Darby, Kris Biofuels and Fathopes Energy would pay RM 1.20 for every 1 kg of the oil. The companies convert the oil into biodiesel. Usually a tong of full oil could be sold for RM 50-60, which is a part of the good income for the community.

You may contact En. Mazlan Idrus from LUAS for further information.
