Day 37 : The Pomodoro Technique

It is a simple time management life hack to make you focus on your most important thing-to-do despise of many distractions.

It was created by a school boy Francesco Cirillo in 1980s, when he frustrated with himself for lacking of productivity, not because of not having enough time, but that he was simply wasting the time that he did have.

As a result, Cirillo used a kitchen timer (tomato shape, "pomodoro" in Italian) to time himself on 10 minutes duration on an uninterrupted, productive study. It might be a struggle to persist at begin, but eventually it could help us to develop a better understanding of time and productivity.

By engaging in short periods of concentrated work, separated by short breaks, we persuade our brain to be willing in completing the tasks in an effective way.

It is simple:

1. List the tasts
2. Work for 25 min.
3. Break for 5 min.
4. Every 4 pomodoros take a longer break (eg. 15-20 min)

Always remember that:
  • If you suddenly realize you have something else you need to do, write the task down on a sheet of paper.
  • Inform the other (distracting) party that you're working on something right now and schedule the follow-up immediately.
  • Obey the timer.
